About Lilly M. Gonzalez, MD

Dr. Lilly M. Gonzalez is a gastroenterologist with board certifications in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. Dr. Gonzalez completed her internal medicine residency at SUNY Stony Brook University Hospital where she also served as clinical assistant instructor. She went on to complete her fellowship training in gastroenterology and hepatology at SUNY Downstate University Hospital where she was also appointed chief fellow. During her fellowship, Dr. Gonzalez was chosen to serve as faculty for the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy’s (ASGE) national first year fellow’s course. Prior to joining Gastro Health, Dr. Gonzalez worked as an attending physician in the division of gastroenterology at Mount Sinai Medical center treating a variety of complex conditions.

Colon Cancer Rates on the Rise in Women Under 50

The latest American Cancer Society guidelines now recommend women aged 45 and older get screened for colon cancer. While traditionally screening for colon cancer has started at age 50, recent trends indicate a rising incidence of colon cancer in younger adults. Colon cancer is now the 2nd leading cause of cancer deaths in women under 50, behind breast cancer.
