About Manol Jovani, MD, MPH

 

 

Dr. Manol Jovani has international experience in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, having trained and conducted research in Italy (University of Bologna and University of Milan) and in the United States (Harvard University and Johns Hopkins University). Dr. Jovani has clinical and research interests in therapeutic endoscopy, including biliopancreatic endoscopy, bariatric endoscopy, and third space endoscopy. He is passionate about patient care and strives to provide the latest and best available treatment options to his patients, personalizing them according to the specific needs of each individual.

Dr. Jovani strongly believes that research is key to improving patient care and is therefore significantly involved in clinical research. He has authored or co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, including two international guidelines, and has presented his research at leading national and international professional meetings.

Dr. Jovani is part of the Standards of Practice Committee of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), the most important scientific society in the world for the field of therapeutic endoscopy. In this role, he helps develop guidelines that influence the clinical practice of providers not only in the U.S. but globally. Dr. Jovani is also a member of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) Quality Improvement Committee, which aims to provide objective criteria to improve the quality of endoscopic procedures worldwide.

In addition, Dr. Jovani serves as an award-winning peer reviewer for the most important professional journals in the field of gastroenterology and endoscopy. This allows him to remain at the forefront of scientific knowledge regarding gastrointestinal diseases and treatments, particularly in the area of therapeutic endoscopy.

  • Diagnostic Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS): minimally invasive diagnostic tool for gastrointestinal diseases, including both linear and radial EUS
  • Interventional Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS): non-surgical, minimally invasive EUS-guided procedures on the gastrointestinal tract such as:
    • EUS-guided hepaticogastrostomy (EUS-HGS)
    • EUS-guided choledocoduodenostomy (EUS-CDS)
    • EUS-guided gallbladder drainage (EUS-GBD)
    • Endoscopic ultrasound Directed transGastric ERCP (EDGE)
    • EUS-guided gastrojejunostomy (EUS-GJ)
    • EUS-guided cystgastrostomy (EUS-CG)
    • EUS-guided celic plexus block/neurolysis
  • Minimally invasive, non-surgical treatment of gastrointestinal precancerous lesions as well as superficial cancers in the esophagus, stomach and colon. These include:
    • Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR)
    • Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD)
    • Endoscopic Full Thickness Resection (EFTR)
    • Submucosal tunneling endoscopic resection (STER)
  • Minimally invasive, non surgical treatment of achalasia, gastroparesis and Zenker’s diverticulum with techniques such as:
    • Per-Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM)
    • Gastric Per-Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (G-POEM)
    • Zenker’s Per-Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (Z-POEM)
  • Transoral Incisonless Fundoplication (TIF): minimally invasive, non-surgical treatment of reflux disease non-responsive to medical therapy
  • Treatment of Barrett’s esophagus with dysplasia and early cancer
    • Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)
    •  Cryoablation
  • Palliative treatments for advanced gastrointestinal neoplasia, such as:
    • Esophageal, duodenal and colonic stent placement
    • Placement of PEG-J for venting and feeding purposes
  • Management of weight regain after surgery or complications of bariatric surgery. These included:
    • Transoral Outlet Reduction (TORe)
    • Fistula closure
  • General diagnostic endoscopy
