Gastro Health, a national leading medical group specializing in digestive health, is the first institution in the United States to utilize the latest diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy technology, the J10 Series Ultrasound Video Gastroscope.
Daniel Gelrud, MD, FACP, gastroenterologist and advanced endoscopist with Gastro Health, became the first physician to utilize the technology to examine a tumor in the wall of the patient’s stomach.
“My first case with the EUS-J10 happened to be one where this technology really made a difference,” said Dr. Gelrud. “This patient had a tumor in the fundus of the stomach, a very challenging area to reach and biopsy. Because this scope is smaller and more flexible, I was able to access the area without any difficulty.”
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is a minimally invasive procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce detailed images of tissues and allows the doctor to reach organs that were difficult to access before such as the pancreas and the outside of the esophagus and stomach.
The new PENTAX Medical J10 Series Ultrasound Video Gastroscopes, which were launched in mid-September, are designed for optimal procedural efficiency and provide a lightweight and ergonomic control body design to ensure stability and ease of intubation.
“These are highly specialized procedures so being able to provide our patients with the most comfortable experience and the most accurate possible results is critical,” says Dr. Gelrud, who is also the Gastroenterology Course Program Director and an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Florida International University (FIU) Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. “This new technology is easier to manipulate, lighter, provides greater imaging quality.”
“This is the type of technology we use to go reach cancer in the wall of the stomach or in the pancreas. It allows us to perform interventional procedures that we could not do before. We can now use this technology to drain cysts and help relieve pain caused by cancer.”
“At Gastro Health, our patients are our top priority and the reason we are committed to using the latest technology to help make their experience as safe as possible,” said Gastro Health CEO, Joseph Garcia. “We are proud to have been the first in the country to utilize this new, state-of-the-art technology that allows us to deliver the best possible care to our patients and be at the forefront in advancing the field of gastroenterology.”
