About Ghazaleh Aram, MD, FAGA

Dr. Aram grew up in Gaithersburg, MD with her single mother. Ever since elementary school, she knew that she wanted to practice medicine. Wanting to stay close to home, she decided to attend the University of Maryland, College Park. As a young adult, Dr. Aram enjoyed the sciences, not just the anatomy – the psychology too – which led to two B.S. degrees with high honors in Biochemistry and Psychology. Medicine and research always blended together for Dr. Aram. She spent a year at NIH doing research.

Dr. Aram attended medical school at the University of Vermont. During her fourth year of medical school, her first daughter was born. Upon graduation she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha and she was also the only student in her graduating class to be elected to Phi Beta Kappa honors society. Shortly after that, she began her internship at John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, which was not an easy task with an infant. During her residency, she found her passion for gastroenterology. It was the perfect combination of performing procedures and caring for patients with acute and chronic illnesses. Plus, Dr. Aram has a background in liver research, which put all of her training together. Dr. Aram did her fellowship in gastroenterology at The John Hopkins Hospital. Her second daughter was born when she was a first year fellow, which was another challenging task that she enjoyed.

Dr. Aram has written many papers, chapters in books, sections for USMLE, and given many presentations at national conferences.  Looking back on her journey, she finds that it was exciting, challenging and hard. But most importantly, she loved it all and now can use it to take care of her patients. In her free time, Dr. Aram enjoys running, hiking and cycling. She also loves to hang out with her friends grilling outdoors or relaxing indoors watching movies.
