What is Revision of Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass?

Revision of Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass is an outpatient procedure for individuals who previously had a successful gastric bypass and are now gaining back weight and able to eat larger portions. This revision will tighten the outlet originally made in the gastric bypass, which will help patient feel fuller more quickly while eating.

What to Expect

You will be given specific instructions to prepare for your Revision of Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass. Your physician may request that you don’t eat or drink after midnight on the day of your procedure.

During your procedure, the physician will use an endoscopic suturing toll to tighten and restore the stomach pouch and outlet to an original or smaller size.

A Revision of Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass requires anesthesia. Under these circumstances, patients are required to have a licensed driver take them back home.

Your physician will provide you with diet modifications to follow for the weeks following your procedure.

Benefits & Risks

This non-invasive technique is performed to help patients feel full faster without losing the integrity of the stomach's natural microbes that help to maintain brain health. The reduction in stomach capacity supports long-term weight loss without interfering with nutrient absorption.

Side effects include abdominal discomfort or pain, nausea, indigestion, and stomach spasm.
